Beautifully written, beautifully narrated.
I loved the first Matthew Corbett novel and wondered if there was any way to match the quality of that stunning book. I was so pleased to find that this is every bit as good. I love the characters, the way the author immerses the reader (listener) into the life of New York in the early 18thC, the twists and turns and red herrings of the plot. The icing on the cake is Edoardo Ballerini. His characterisations are spot-on and he brings Matthew totally to life. I read somewhere that there will be 10 in the Matthew Corbett series. I shall be downloading every one of them.

Better and better
Having been irritated by the mispronounciations of the otherwise excellent narrator (who is obviously an American but has made a creditable fist of English accents) in the Nightbird, particularly of the oft-used ‘clerk’, I found that I didn’t mind half as much in this sequel. Once again we have a rip- roaring yarn of late 17th century America, which kept this listener plugged in far longer than usual, with a great range of colourful characters and hopefully accurate historical detail. Highly recommended.

Awesome
I have discovered many wonderful writers through audible- Gregg Hurwitz, Helen Fields, Jack Gatland ,JD Kirk, Elizabeth Hunter, and when coupled with an excellent narrator ( Scott Brick, Robin Laing, Angus King, Zachary Webber) it makes for a truly fulfilling experience. The Matthew Corbett series is another winning combination of magnificent writing by Robert McCammon and superb narration by Edoardo Ballerini- the characters develop beautifully and the historical setting is fascinating. I look forward to many more hours lost in the creativity of the rest of the series. Thank you both.

Great writing
Book 2 of the series gets a bit wild. New characters and old one laid to bed. The general story expands greatly with the hero settling into his career and meeting his nemesis organization..
i enjoyed it tremendously.

A new favourite series
Speaks The Night Bird could have been a standalone but through this second novel we are now set up for further adventures both public and private with Matthew Corbett. Good fun and convincing historical details. Recommended.

What a gem
I partly chose this book for its length. I like a long book. Boy was I glad I did. Basically a whodunit, but told in the 17thC. A great plot with full of life characters, touches of humour all beautifully presented by this excellent narrator. Thoroughly recommended.
