Summary

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Thomas Harris’ legendary best-seller, Audible presents The Silence of the Lambs, with a new introduction written and read by the author himself.

An FBI trainee. A psychopath locked up for unspeakable crimes. And a serial killer getting ever closer to his latest victim...

Seeking insight into the deadly madman she must find, FBI rookie Clarice Starling turns to Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a monster cannibal held in a hospital for the criminally insane. As Dr. Lecter invites Clarice into the darkest chambers of his mind, he forces her to confront her own childhood demons in return for knowledge; an unspeakable tuition he exacts to teach her how the monster thinks. But time is running out…

An instant classic of chilling psychological suspense, The Silence of the Lambs will take you from the tormenting words of a homicidal maniac and the flesh-rending depravity of an elusive killer to the sheer courage of a young FBI novice, who risks her life to track him down and stop the bloodshed.

A native of Mississippi, Thomas Harris began his writing career covering crime in the United States and Mexico, and was a reporter and editor for the Associated Press in New York City. His first novel, Black Sunday, was published in 1975, followed by Red Dragon in 1981, The Silence of the Lambs in 1988, Hannibal in 1999, and Hannibal Rising in 2006.

All the Hannibal Lecter books have been made into films, most notably starring Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. Sky has also produced a television series based on the notorious mass murderer, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne and Hugh Dancy.

"A huge talent" (Ian Rankin)
"The best book I've read in a very long time. Subtle, horrific and splendid" (Roald Dahl)

Brilliantlywritestory told engagingly. Excellent.

Even though you will know the story from the movie, the book is so much more.
The movie held very close to the book, which is great and I could see more into the mind of Lecter than I might be comfortable with...

such an engaging story.

Silence revisited.

I don't think I know anybody who hasn't heard of Hannibal Lecter and not seen Silence of the Lambs. I read the book years ago so took a chance on the audio version when it popped up in a sale.

The movie played close to the book and the narration was good although every now and again some hissing came through.

Gripping

I binge listened. Brilliantly written, expertly read. I’d seen and loved the film but that didn’t spoil it for me.

Great Listening

Haunting rendition of a great book. Thomas Harris' characters are really brought to life in the listener's imagination.

Simply a classic

Hannibal Lecter is such a fine invention; he is stylish but brutish, completely mad yet strangely sane. You know you should loathe him but you can't help but admire him. One of the great anti-heroes.
My only criticism is that Frank Muller's performance is delivered in a slightly histrionic sinister voice. A little texture would have made it perfect.
