We start off with "Dirty White Boy". Did you know this song is called "Dirty White Boy"? Seriously, how did that happen? We get into some song meanings (more like wrong meanings), the album cover that made the Bible Belt mad, something called "crypto-racism", and more.

That's right, y'all, it's a Laguna Beach/The Hills theme song episode.

The Music Was Better crew took a field trip to the Alanis Morissette concert and now they're here to talk about it.

The show starts off with "You Oughta Know", that song that everyone thinks they know who it's about. Well, guess what? You don't and we're sick of hearing about it! Why would you even want this song to be about you anyway? Hey, it's me, the abusive dickbag from. Cool, I guess?

The comment section is loaded with jagged little pills, including a dad who used this song to teach his son a lesson about how to treat women. That's pretty nice. The only song my parents ever played for me was "Helter Skelter". They said it was about some kind of prophecy their friend Charlie told them about? I don't know, I wasn't really paying much attention.

We follow up that angry song with a happier one, "Head Over Feet". Not much facts out there about this one, but the song is a banger. Nobody wants to talk about happy songs anymore.

"Warrior"? "Battlefield"? What is this, some kind of war propaganda? Because that is not okay. Umm, war is bad? Like, seriously...

No, silly, it's two of the best songs of the 1980s and Vintown and Sammerz are here to talk all about them. This week we're covering "The Warrior" by Scandal (aka the Patty Smyth band) and "Love is a Battlefield" by the great Pat Benatar!

The show starts off with talk about 1984's "The Warrior" by Scandal. We talk about the song's writers, the great Holly Knight and Nick Glider; her writing process, the band's demise shortly after this song hit, stereo jungle child, the classic music video, and Netflix's GLOW.

We then dive into the YouTube comments section where this song is great for talent shows, but bad for bodybuilding competitions. It does sound great when driving a Datsun 280ZX though. Plus, a guy who is really into a BatMan/WWF crossover.

Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" is our second song of the show. It is also written by the great Holly Knight along with Mike Chapman. Their songwriting process is covered here as well as their anger at Neil Giraldo's re-arranging of the song. Something they conveniently dropped when the song became a huge hit. Funny how that works. Hashtag capitalism. The music video is another all-timer so you know we're talking about that too.

The comment section asks a very important question that we all should be asking ourselves: why world not like when this song come out? why world hard now and no mall? Plus, True Blood talk, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, having thoughts, and an expert in feelings. Good times!

The Music Was Better Summer Salebration continues with an episode dedicated to one of our favorite summer pastimes: walking! One foot in front of the other, y'all!

Specifically, "Walking on Sunshine" (Vintown) and "Walking on Broken Glass" (Sammerz)!

We started off with what Vintown calls one of the happiest songs ever, Katrina & The Waves' "Walking on Sunshine". We talk about how the band really wanted to be Velvet Underground, the insane amount of money the song makes, Hurricane Katrina (more like hurricane tortilla), and the numerous covers of the song.

The YouTube Comments (YTC) will make you as happy as a dog when it gets to walk, including someone mad about comparisons to Starship's "Built This City", a 14-year-old that wants to be reborn, and a questioning of reality itself.

Sammerz' pick is up next, Annie Lennox's 1992 hit, "Walking on Broken Glass". We dig into Diva, if this song is a personal one, Annie's problematic character, and the star studded music video. Hey, is that Dr. House I see? I bet he'd diagnose this segment: very informative!

The YTC for this song has some real gems. From Vivian's boring dream to Thomas' woke anthem to Robert's rage against music videos, the comments really are like that shoe that fits just right.

Vintown and Sammerz are back to talk about two of Third Eye Blind's biggest hits: "Semi-Charmed Life" and "How's It Going To Be"! We did a ton of research for this as we even went and watched the concert live. Anything for our listeners.

It wouldn't be summer without a sequel that nobody asked for.

Apparently, there are some "California Girls" songs that we forgot about last week so Vintown and Sammerz are coming at you with a sequel to talk all about them.

The first one is David Lee Roth's cover of the Beach Boys classic. We talk about his decision to go solo, the song's success in comparison to other Van Halen songs, the Crazy from the Heat EP, and more.

We delve into the YouTube comment section of a VHS rip of "California Girls". Things start off okay with your run of the mill stoners and admirers of Dave's fighting skills, but then things take a turn for the worse with Katy Perry haters, racists, and liars? Oh my.

Our second song is Gretchen Wilson's "California Girls", a song that neither of us knew existed until earlier this week. Honestly, it was better that way, but we talk about it anyway. There isn't much out there about this one so we even delve into Gretchen's experiences in Plane Hell.

The comment section is filled with people who don't quite get that the song isn't that serious and they are mad as hell about it. Plus, an appearance from Gretchen herself?! No way!
