The Pickwick Papers was Dickens's first novel. Retired businessman and confirmed bachelor, Mr Samuel Pickwick esquire, embarks on a journey through the English countryside accompanied by three fellow "Pickwickians", Mr. Tupman, Mr. Snodgrass and Mr. Winkle. On Christmas Eve, a traveler finds himself waiting out a snowstorm at the Holly Tree Inn. While passing the hours waiting for the weather to pass so his coach can continue its journey, the warm hearth of the inn brings his mind to roam to pass recollections, both happy and grave. One of Charles Dickens's most personally resonant novels, Little Dorrit speaks across the centuries to the modern audience. But who is the murderer? We will never know.
