كان انطباعها الأول عنه أنه طفلٌ اجتماعي، دائم الابتسام والضحك، والمثيرُ للحيرة أنه لا يبكي أو يغضب مهما حدث. ولذلك كانت كل التقارير التي تبعثها لرئيسها ضعيفة؛ كلها تفيد بأن هذا الطفل يتمتع بنشاط غير عادي ينبئ بطفلٍ عبقري وذي قدرات ذهنية متفوق، مع ذكرها لمعلومة وحيدة كانت تكررها في نهاية كل تقرير؛ وهي أن الطفل ينطق حروفًا أبجدية وكلمات غير مفهومة.
