Now that Seaview is refurbished and reopened Rose Lambert's dream seems to be coming true, but the arrival of Hurricane Alphonso might end her dream before it can really begin. Her first guests are in residence and one of them acts like the hurricane with its wind, rain, and power outages is a personal affront. Rose's attempts to fit into the island community are thwarted by nasty rumors spread by a local woman who resents Rose's romance with Ignatius "Iggy" Solomon. And Calvin Brooks, the lecherous plumber, just won't take "No!" for an answer.

Dan finds a job as a diving instructor immediately, but Ella cant get a work permit and is reduced to cleaning vacation rental homes on the side for cash. Better Than Mom's is a neighborhood diner in a small city in Wisconsin where good food and interesting people come together. Meet Brady, the warm-hearted owner who takes pride in making homemade food for his customers, Fay, the sassy morning waitress who cares for people more than she lets on, Naomi, the welfare mom who cooks like an angel and needs a job, Steve, who sits in the back booth and won't let anyone see what he's writing, and Officer Bates, who comes to investigate a crime but ends up sweeping Fay off her feet.

Gail Logan, a widow in her mid-fifties, has lived her life by what other people think. That has to change. Signing up for a watercolor class and thrifting a new wardrobe makes a good start. Widower Abel starts turning up in Gail’s path, but she buried one bossy man and she’s not interested in another. Her sons and her best friend feel threatened by all of Gail’s changes.
