A mystical or sacred experience is one in which an individual reports contact with a transcendent reality - an encounter or union with the divine. Such experiences often involve arriving at some knowledge or insight previously unavailable to the individual. Many religious and mystical traditions see these experiences as revelations caused by divine agency, rather than an ordinary process of encountering higher-order realities of which humans are not ordinarily aware.

Many ancient cultures teach that sacred knowledge continuously emerges from the universe in the form of the primordial teachings. These universal truths come into being spontaneously and exist perpetually and eternally because they cannot be destroyed. As time and consciousness pass from one world to the next, these sacred truths of eternal wisdom reveal themselves, granting mortal man the opportunity to learn the true nature of the Creator's intentions regarding the universal forces that control everything.
