「ラプンツェル」は、グリム兄弟により「グリム童話集」に収められたお話。 生まれてすぐに両親の元から魔女に連れ去られ、森の中の高い塔に閉じ込められたラプンツェルだったが、ある日・・・。ドイツの民話をもとに描かれたグリムの代表的な作品。 グリム兄弟は19世紀に活躍したドイツの文献学者で兄ヤ－コブ（1785 - 1863）と弟ウィルヘルム（1786 - 1859）の二人、他に「白雪姫」「ヘンゼルとグレーテル」などの有名な作品がある。

「雪の夜の話」は1944年（昭和19年）に雑誌『少女の友』に掲載された短編小説。 主人公の少女は、雪の夜に義理の姉に渡す届け物を、雪の降る道で無くしてしまうのだが・・・。 太宰にしては、やさしく暖かく、心を穏やかにする短編作品。又作品の中に出てくる水夫のエピソードは太宰自身が気に入ったらしく、随筆『一つの約束』でも紹介している。 太宰 治（だざい おさむ、青森県生まれ、1909年 - 1948年）。27歳の時、短編集『晩年』でデビューする。代表作として、『走れメロス』『斜陽』『人間失格』などがある。1948年（昭和23年）に入水自殺。
