純粋な芸術家が次第に有名になり金持ちになっていく過程を妻の目から厳しく批判的に書いている一人称形式の物語で、女性の一途に思い込む心情が鋭く伝わってくる。「待つ」は昭和17年に発表された作品集「女性」に収められているもので、掌編とでも云った極く短い作品。これも女性の一人語りで、二作品とも女性の朗読に最適な作品である。
