I earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Harvard and a doctoral degree in cross cultural child development from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. After more than thirty years of work as an educator and maternal infant therapist, I trained as a yoga instructor at Kripalu. I created the Yoga of Parenting, a practice and philosophy that integrates principles from cutting-edge psychology with mindful yoga. For the past 10 years I have taught workshops for new mothers in Boulder, CO. I have learned from these strong, courageous, smart women that when they take frequent, short breaks to soothe their busy nervous systems, and, with self compassion, tune into their experience and that of their child, they feel more confident and can ask for what they need. My new book, Breathing Space For New Mothers, written with Erin O White, empowers mothers, with a hefty dose of humor, to tune into themselves and tune out some of the unnecessary bombardment of "parenting advice". My three sons are grown now, and one of my greatest pleasures is watching them nurture their small daughters with humor, tenderness and never-ending patience.
